Were students of Northfield Public School District able to meet MCA and MTAS Reading testing expectations in 2021-22 school year?

Northfield Public School District ranked first in the Rice County for test participation, with 1,942 students taking the Reading portion of the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment and the Minnesota Test of Academic Skills in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Minnesota Department of Education.

The number of Northfield Public School District students taking the tests in the 2021-22 school year rose by 14.6% over the previous year.

Northfield Public School District's students achieved an average Reading proficiency rate of 60% in 2021-22 school year.

Sixth grade students stood out with 32% of them exceeding standards in Reading, which was the highest recorded proficiency at the district.

On the other hand, eighth grade students had the most room for improvement, with 32% not meeting the expected standards.

Northfield Public School District encompasses schools within Rice County and has a main office in Northfield.

Minnesota students take the MCA annually (or the MTAS, for students with cognitive disabilities) to determine their academic readiness. Not every grade is tested each year.

Analysis from the Nation’s Report Card showed Math and Reading scores have fallen significantly in the last decade. Science scores have been steady in recent years.

Minnesota Department of Education issues could lead to data irregularities.
